Record Google Meet calls on Mac
Capture any Google Meet call on macOS — audio from every participant plus your mic — into one local .m4a. No bot, no browser extension, no Google Workspace admin required.
How it works with Google Meet
- 1
Start the Google Meet call in your browser
Any browser, any account — free Gmail works. CallCove doesn't need access to Meet itself.
- 2
Click record in the menubar
Press ⌘R or click the record icon. CallCove captures the browser tab's audio (everyone in the meeting) plus your mic.
- 3
Stop and transcribe
Stop the recording when the call ends. Both sides land in a single .m4a in ~/Recordings/CallCove/, ready to transcribe locally.
Why CallCove for Google Meet
Google Meet's built-in recording is gated behind a paid Workspace plan, limited to the host, and saves to Drive. CallCove works on any Meet call, free plan or not, and keeps the recording on your disk.
- Works on the free Google plan — no Workspace subscription required
- No need for host recording permission
- No extension, no bot, no guest prompt
- Captures multi-participant Meet audio — everyone's voice comes through
- On-device transcription supports 99 languages
- Unlimited recording length — useful for all-hands and long workshops
Google Meet — Q&A
Does Google Meet's built-in recording work on the free plan?+
No — it requires a paid Workspace Business Standard or higher plan, and only the host can start it. CallCove has no such restriction.
Will other Meet participants see a recording indicator?+
No. The OS-level audio capture is invisible to Meet. You remain responsible for complying with your local recording-consent law.
Does it work with Meet's breakout rooms?+
Yes — whatever audio is playing in your browser tab is captured, including breakout-room audio once you've joined one.
Can I transcribe an existing Meet recording from Drive?+
Yes. Download the recording from Drive (.mp4) and drag it onto CallCove's transcription window — same on-device pipeline.
Can I record Google Meet with audio on Mac without a Workspace plan?+
Yes. CallCove records the browser tab's audio plus your mic at the OS level — Google Meet's recording-license requirements (Workspace Business Standard or higher) don't apply to it. Works on any free Gmail account.
Why does the screen recorder built into macOS not capture Meet audio cleanly?+
macOS' built-in screen recorder (Cmd+Shift+5) captures your mic but not Meet's tab audio without a virtual audio device like BlackHole. CallCove uses Apple's ScreenCaptureKit to grab tab audio natively — no setup.
